On December 7th, 2016, the Sarnia Police Service along with its community partners at Lambton Mall held its 4th annual “Cop Shop”, where 22 grade school kids were treated to a VIP shopping experience. Each student was selected by their respective school to participate in this event. These students demonstrated anti-bullying, leadership and role model behaviour to their teachers and peers. They were each provided limousine transportation to and from the mall, paired up with a Sarnia police officer and given a $200 Lambton Mall gift card to spend on themselves. They were also treated to a magic show, face painting, a complimentary lunch, and other Lambton Mall retailer gift certificates.
Adam Hurst, a grade six student at Hanna Memorial School, was one of the Cop Shop participants that day. This past year, Adam came up with the fundraiser idea of “Kernels for Carter” in an effort to raise money for his friend and classmate Carter Gooding who was diagnosed with cancer. Adam sold popcorn every day at recess and was able to raise $600 which he donated to his friend Carter.
When this story was shared with Lambton Mall Administration, without hesitation, they donated another $200 Lambton Mall gift card to Carter, along with a gift bag to his family. Carter stated he is saving up his money to purchase an Xbox 1 console.
The Sarnia Police Service would like to thank Lambton Mall for their repeated generosity and commitment to our community.
