On August 25, 2016, the Sarnia Police responded to an assault that took place in the area of George Street and Christina Street in the City of Sarnia. A 64 year old man was being attacked by another male who was on top of the victim punching him. A witness was passing by and noticed this act taking place. The witness approached the incident at which point the suspect ran off. It was later discovered that the victim was conducting property checks and when he attempted to call out and wake the suspect up, who was sleeping in a stair case, the suspect jumped up and ran at the victim. The suspect knocked the victim down and began to strike him. The victim and the suspect did not know each other.
The victim was transported to the hospital but was released later that night.
Since the last media release on August 25, 2016 with the description that was given out regarding the suspect, he has been identified thanks to the assistance of the public.
Justin Denis Leroux (26 years of age) has been arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm and is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
