The Sarnia Police Service would like to remind everyone that schools open their doors today and a few issues revolving around the safety of our youngsters come to mind.

First, remember that when school buses activate their flashing red lights and stop arms all traffic must come to a full and complete stop and are not to move until everything has been deactivated.

Next, when approaching an intersection where a crossing guard is on the road with their stop sign no traffic is to move until the crossing guard has left the road way.

When in a school zone please slow down and drive according to the conditions, normally before and after school there will be extra vehicle and foot traffic.

Finally, there will be an increase in foot and bicycle traffic along our sidewalks and roadways. Keep in mind that some children act impulsively and thus dart out into traffic without thinking. Please keep an eye out for them and slow down as their actions are not always predictable.

Thank you and here’s hoping to a great school year for all!
