On June 7, 2016, at approximately 6:35 pm, an officer on general patrol was stopped at the intersection of Davis Street and Mitton Street in the City of Sarnia when he observed a pickup truck, immediately in front of him, run a red light at a high rate of speed as the officer began to proceed. The officer immediately followed the vehicle to pull it over, which he did without incident.
As the officer approached the driver’s side window he noted the overwhelming odour of some sort cologne. As the officer continued speaking with the driver the officer began to note more and more signs of impairment. The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle to continue the investigation at which point the odour of an alcoholic beverage was noted. Due to all the information gathered by the officer grounds were formed to arrest the 43 year old male from Corunna for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. At this point the accused became upset and belligerent towards the officer blaming the officer for everything that was happening. A search of the vehicle revealed open alcohol, which the accused had access to.
The suspect was then transported to the station to be tested on the Intoxilyzer for his alcohol blood level. At the station the accused continued to be belligerent and in the end refused to supply samples of breath as demanded.
The suspect was held until he was sober and subsequently released on a Promise to Appear. He is now facing the charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Refusing to Provide a Sample of Breath.
