On May 28, 2016 at approximately 2:30 am an officer on patrol observed a pickup truck southbound on Mitton Street turning onto Wellington Street in the City of Sarnia. The vehicle was observed traveling at a high rate of speed and crossing over the center line. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and while speaking with the driver the officer observed open alcohol in one of the cup holders. As the investigation continued the officer formed grounds to arrest the driver for impaired operation of a motor vehicle by alcohol.
The accused, a 23 year old male from Sarnia, then supplied samples of breath into an intoxilyzer which gave readings of over three times the legal limit. The accused was subsequently held until he was sober and is facing the charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol.
In another incident, the Sarnia Police responded to a motor vehicle collision in the 800 block of London Road in the City of Sarnia. This incident occurred on May 29, 2016 at approximately 11:00 pm. In this incident, a pickup truck left the road striking 2 hydro poles, which were required to be replaced. As the officer investigated the matter a demand was made to the 22 year old female driver of the pickup to supply a sample of breath into a roadside screening device. The driver blew a fail and was subsequently arrested for over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.
The female accused was then transported to the station where she supplied samples of breath indicating that she was over twice the legal limit. She was then held till sober awaiting her first court date for operating a motor vehicle with over 80mg of alcohol in blood.
Both of these incidents could have been avoided if individuals would have used common sense and found an alternate means of transportation. Fortunately no one was injured because of their actions.
