Three People Arrested in Stolen Car

On Sunday January 24, 2016 just after 8:00 a.m. a Sarnia Police officer on routine patrol located a vehicle that had been reported stolen a short time prior. The stolen vehicle was seen near Devine and Vidal Street when the officer activated the emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle was being driven by a 36 year old Sarnia man wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant. Also in the vehicle were another man and woman as passengers. The driver continued east at a high rate of speed on Devine Street until Indian Road where he turned right heading south. The driver continued onto Williams Road and the initial officer lost sight of the vehicle on Degurse Drive. A second officer observed the vehicle on Lasalle Line at Tashmoo Avenue travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control and the vehicle came to a stop. All three occupants fled on foot in different directions. An officer chased the driver into a nearby wooded area and was confronted by the driver who was brandishing a twelve inch knife. The man refused to drop the knife and tried to flee when he fell still holding the knife. The officer deployed his Conducted Energy Weapon and was able to take the man into custody.

The driver has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5000.00, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, driving while disqualified, resisting a police officer, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, two counts of breach of bail and five counts of breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing.

The 22 year old Sarnia female passenger was located nearby and charged with possession of stolen property over $5000.00

The 26 year old male passenger was located at about 10:30 a.m. in Corunna by the Ontario Provincial Police. He has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5000.00, driving while disqualified and two counts of breaching his probation. He was held for a bail hearing.
