The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the cause of the fire at the Kenwick Apartment building to be accidental. The fire originated in the building’s electrical services on the third floor, specifically the electrical appliance for freeze protection on the water system.
The residential area has been released to the building owner and restoration and clean-up began Tuesday evening. The third and fourth floor will be turned over to the building owner at approximately 12:00 p.m. today.
Damage assessment to the building services (alarm system, elevator and power supply) will be initiated right away. A date that residents may return to their homes will be released when the building is determined to be safe.
