A 36 year old female from Sarnia was arrested after allegedly assaulting a taxi driver on Monday night.

On the evening of January 3rd, 2022, the accused in this matter requested the services of a local taxi company. During this time, the cab driver made multiple stops at the fare’s request. At one point during the ride, the accused became irate and began yelling at the driver. When the taxi reached the area of Queen Street and Talfourd Street, the female began striking the victim as he was in the middle of the intersection.

She then re-attended the cab and requested another ride which was denied by the victim. At this time she allegedly began striking the victim a second time with closed fists through the window of the vehicle.

At approximately 11:45pm, Sarnia Police attended this area and the female was located walking away from the victim’s location.

As a result, Keira Leigh Stirling was arrested and charged with Assault. She was then transported to the Sarnia Police Headquarters where she was held for bail hearing and has since been remanded into custody. Her next court appearance is scheduled for January 7th, 2022.

Date: January 7, 2022

On Jan 6, 2021, at approximately 3:35 PM, a member of the Sarnia Police Service Traffic Unit was parked in the area of Talfourd Street and East Street when the officer could hear a vehicle approaching with the motor revving at a high rate.

The officer then observed the vehicle approach the intersection at a high rate of speed and when the driver made an attempt to stop at the intersection the vehicle was unable to stop completely but rather rolled through the intersection without stopping. The vehicle then immediately accelerated away at a high rate of speed.

The officer began to follow the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Talfourd Street and Russell Street. Before the officer could step out of the cruiser the driver left his vehicle and began to walk away attempting to avoid acknowledging the officer’s presence.

The officer was able to catch up to the driver on foot and based on the interactions and observations made, by the officer, the driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The accused was transported to the Sarnia Police Headquarters where testing was conducted to determine the level of alcohol in the accused’s blood. Testing indicated that the accused was over twice the legal limit.

As a result, the accused, Clayton Norman Powers, 24 years of age, of Sarnia, faces one count of impaired by alcohol while operating a motor vehicle and one count of having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

Male Threatens Staff With A Replica Hand Gun

Broadcast time:
9:55 AM

Date: January 17, 2022

On January 17, 2022, at approximately 12:05 AM, a male suspect entered the Emergency Department at Bluewater Health Sarnia. The male was highly agitated and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

The male began to argue with Triage staff at which point Bluewater Health Security responded immediately to the disturbance. As the security staff approached the suspect the male ran outside through the main doors. To ensure that the man didn’t return or cause any further problems security and other staff exited outside to see if he had left the area.

Once outside the male suspect turned towards staff and pulled out what appeared to be a handgun. The male pointed the gun at security and staff, lunging forward at them. Staff immediately ran inside and took cover while the suspect followed them still pointing the firearm and threatening them. The male entered the emergency room area with the gun raised and caused further panic among those present. People took cover, concerned for their lives.

Bluewater Security had already contacted the Sarnia Police Service and officers immediately flooded the area. The male suspect had left the hospital but fortunately officers were able to locate him beside a building in the 200 block of Durand Street. As officers approached the suspect they observed what appeared to be a handgun on the ground by the suspect. Officers were able to arrest the individual with no further incident.

A search of the male located approximately 37 grams of crystal methamphetamine. The handgun that was retrieved by officers was determined to be a BB hand gun that was a replica of a real gun.

Fortunately, aside from the fear caused, no one sustained any physical injuries.

The accused, Bradley Douglas Kelly, 22 years of age, of Sarnia faces the following charges:

  1. Four counts of assault with a weapon
  2. Four counts of use of a weapon while committing an offence
  3. Four counts of pointing a firearm
  4. Four counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  5. Four counts of breach of probation
  6. Two counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to a Prohibition Order
  7. One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  8. One count of possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking

Kelly remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Broadcast time:
12:50 PM

Date: January 17, 2022

At approximately 6:00 AM, this morning (January 17, 2022), Sarnia Police received an urgent call to attend the area of Afton Drive and Murphy Road along with Sarnia Fire and Lambton Paramedics.

Upon arrival it was determined that a person was in the back of a garbage truck yelling. Fortunately, a 48-year-old female was extracted from the garbage truck and miraculously did not sustain any injuries.

According to information received by the officer, the driver had picked up a load from a large garbage bin, dumped it into the garbage truck, and did not observe anything on the camera which is located inside the garbage truck. The driver then proceeded to crush the load and head to the next stop which was located in the area of Murphy Road and Afton Drive.

Once there the driver could hear what sounded like someone yelling from the back of the truck. The camera was checked and to the driver’s surprise a person was observed in the back.

It is believed that the individual had attempted to find shelter in the bin by covering herself with cardboard and thus was not seen on camera.

Robbery

Broadcast time:
1:55 PM

Date: January 17, 2022

The Sarnia Police entered into an investigation on January 6, 2022, regarding a robbery that had taken place earlier that day that involved a possible hand gun.

According to the victim (a 37-year-old male), it is alleged that while he was out on Roger Street two individuals, who were known to him, invited the victim inside a residence in the 700 block of Roger Street. Once inside the victim was confronted by two other males who were also present.

Once confronted by these two other individuals, who were also known to the victim, the situation quickly escalated. The victim wanted to leave but was not allowed, instead, one of the suspects struck the victim in the face and two other grabbed onto him. It is then alleged that he was forcibly escorted to the basement of the residence. During this time one of the assailants reached into his jacket accessing an object and threatening to shoot him as the object was pressed against the victim’s side.

Once downstairs, three of the suspects were present and one of the suspects held a large knife demanding drugs, which he did not have. Another suspect removed a wallet, a cell phone, and some other items from the victim. The suspects continued to threaten the victim and the individual that had threatened to shoot the victim actually pulled out what appeared to be a handgun.

Once things calmed down one of the suspects returned the wallet minus any money. The victim continued to comply and was granted permission to leave without any further issue. Fortunately, he did not sustain any sort of significant injury.

As a result of this investigation the following three individuals have since been arrested and charged as follows:

  1. Quentin Abraham Shawnoo, 33 years of age, of Kettle Point, faces one count of forcible confinement, four counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and robbery using a firearm.
  2. Robin Alexander Maness, 42 years of age, of Sarnia, faces one count of forcible confinement, one count of assault, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, one count of breach of probation, one count of robbery with a weapon, and one count of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. When Maness was arrested he was also found to be in possession of vehicle that had been stolen and now also faces a charge for possession of stolen property over $5000.
  3. Michael John Dearing, 47 years of age, of Sarnia, for one count of forcible confinement.

The fourth accused in this matter is a Joshua Allen Spero, 36 years of age, of Sarnia, who has not been arrested but is wanted on an outstanding warrant for one count of forcible confinement, and one count of robbery with violence (a picture of Spero can be found below).

Sarnia Police Service’s Vice Unit Makes a Significant Seizure of Drugs

Broadcast time:
11:50 PM

Date: January 18, 2022

Members of the Sarnia Police Service Vice Unit entered into an extensive drug investigation regarding suspects that were believed to be trafficking large amounts of cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and fentanyl. The investigation also revealed that the suspects were using various locations within the City of Sarnia, as well as a location in the Village of Point Edward, to conduct their illegal activity.

Vice officers applied for and were granted Controlled Drugs and Substance Act Search Warrants for two address in the 800 block of Phillip Street East (automotive body shops), 100 block of Richard Street, 400 block of Wellington Street, and the 400 block of Devine Street (all within the City of Sarnia). The final address was in the 100 block of Kendall Street (also an automotive body shop) in the Village of Point Edward.

On January 12, 2022, at approximately 3:00 PM, members of the Sarnia Police Service Vice Unit with assistance from the Sarnia Police Service Emergency Response Team, Uniform Patrol, and the Criminal Investigation Division began executing the search warrants.

As officers made their entry into the Phillip Street addresses a number of suspects attempted to flee the buildings or hide but were apprehended without incident.

Due to the number of locations and the large amount of area to be searched the officers began their search on January 12, 2022 and completed it on January 13, 2022.

The searches on Phillip Street East and Kendal Street located various quantities of illegal drugs, precursors (which are substances used in the alleged production of fentanyl powder from pure carfentanil), and various forms of drug paraphernalia believed to be used in the production and distribution of street drugs (ie. packaging, scales, etc).

A search of the Wellington Street address located various quantities of drugs along with a replica handgun, drug paraphernalia, and a homemade taser that was functional. Nothing of significance was located on Devine Street or Richard Street.

The total amount of drugs seized from all locations is as follows:

  1. 13.8 grams of street-ready fentanyl
  2. 122 grams of pure carfentanil
  3. 954.9 grams of crystal methamphetamine
  4. 265.1 grams of cocaine
  5. Eight 4mg hydromorphone pills
  6. Thirty 100mg morphine pills
  7. $630 in currency

The total value of controlled substances seized, along with currency, is approximately $171,006.

The following individuals were charged accordingly:

  1. Nathan Keith Raaymakers, 41 years of age, of Sarnia, faces three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a Schedule I Substance. Raaymakers is now also wanted on a warrant for two further counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. A photo of Raaymakers can be found below.

  2. Nicholas Edward Bailey, 25 years of age, of Sarnia, faces three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a Schedule I Substance, and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

  3. Tiffany Nadine Chamaillard-Hunter, 47 years of age, of Sarnia, faces two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a Schedule I Substance.

  4. Danielle Alana Smith, 24 years of age, of Sarnia, faces two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a Schedule I Substance.

  5. Timothy Ross Tomlinson, 55 years of age, of Sarnia, faces two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a Schedule I Substance.

All the individuals mentioned above were arrested and taken into custody. Since then, Nicholas Bailey remains in custody while the remaining four were released on their respective charges.

Further charges are pending as the investigation continues.

The seizure of 954.9 grams (nearly a kilogram) of crystal methamphetamine is the largest known seizure by the Sarnia Police Service.

Also, the seizure of 122 grams of pure carfentanil is the largest seizure of this substance that has been seized by the Sarnia Police Service.

Carfentanil is 100 times more potent than fentanyl powder. It is believed that once this quantity of substance has been processed it will translate into over 1 kilogram of street ready fentanyl powder.

A significant concern that arises with carfentanil being processed into street ready carfentanil or fentanyl powder, is the actual process. If carfentanil is not mixed and diluted properly the concentration may be great enough to cause death, even the smallest amount. As well, the conditions and equipment allegedly being used are not pharmaceutical grade and thus there is a very great risk that the final product that would be sold on the streets could be fatal.

Early Morning Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Trafficking Charges

Broadcast time:
9:45 AM

Date: January 20, 2022

Earlier this morning (January 20, 2022), at approximately 3:15 AM, officers from General Patrol were in the area of Wellington Street and Russell Street when they observed a vehicle that took off from the intersection before the stop light turned green.

The vehicle was travelling northbound on Russell Street and as the officers attempted to catch up to the suspect vehicle it pulled into a lane way in the 100 block of Russell Street. As the officers were exiting their cruiser they observed the two occupants get out of their vehicle and proceed to run through backyards and jump fences.

Immediately other officers were dispatched to the area to assist in locating the two individuals that fled on foot from the vehicle. As the initial officers approached the abandoned vehicle a large quantity of a suspected drug was observed in plain view inside the car. A further search of the vehicle also located a replica handgun, that was determined to be a pellet gun, along with other evidence that would relate to the trafficking of drugs.

Officers continued to search the area and located a male and female matching the description of the occupants, who fled from the vehicle, in the area of Cromwell Street attempting to enter a taxi.

The two suspects were taken into custody and transported to the station without further incident. The male suspect was shortly thereafter transported to hospital due to the fact that he may have swallowed an unknown quantity of the alleged drug while fleeing from police in an effort to destroy the evidence. At this time the accused remains in hospital and is being monitored to ensure his well-being.

It was later determined that a total quantity of 12.6 grams of crack cocaine was recovered, along with other evidence, and the replica handgun.

The following individuals have been charged accordingly:

  1. Jeremy Joseph Spinks, 34 years of age, of Sarnia, faces one count of possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of failing to comply with a release order, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon.

  2. Alysha Yvonne Dewey, 29 years of age, of Sarnia, faces one count of possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking, and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon.
