19 Vehicles Had Tires Slashed

Sarnia Police responded to Willowdale Crescent in Sarnia just after midnight for a complaint of mischief to some motor vehicles. The officer arrived and met a resident who informed the officer he had attended his car to retrieve an item and saw a flat tire. Upon further inspection, he noticed the tire was actually slashed. He then observed other cars had the same thing. Some vehicles had one tire slashed, others had two tires slashed.

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges

A Sarnia police officer conducted a traffic stop on a car in the 400 block of Davis Street last night around 11:15 PM. Two females occupied the car. The driver was 24 and the passenger was 30. Both women were from Sarnia. The passenger appeared to be fidgeting with a bag that was at her feet inside the car. She was asked to step from the vehicle.

The woman was displaying actions that are consistent with drug abuse. She was holding something in her hand. When the officer questioned her about it, she attempted to run away. She was stopped and she threw the items from her hand onto the ground. They were three little bags found to contain what is believed to be crystal methamphetamine. She was arrested. She was found to be on a Recognizance with conditions not to be in possession of drugs.

Also found in her possession was codeine and oxycodone tablets and two small digital scales. She faces three charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Breach of Recognizance. She was held for a bail hearing.

Marshall Jay Scott MANESS, DOB: 30Dec1973, age 39. Male, aboriginal, 180 cm (5′ 11″), 68 kg (150 lbs), brown hair, brown eyes. Tattoos on both arms and scars over eye and right upper arm. Wanted for Assault with a Weapon.

 

Brandon William Scott MCNEVAN, DOB: 30Nov1990, age 22. Male, white, 173 cm (5′ 8″), 68 kg (150 lbs), brown hair, brown eyes. Pierced eyebrow. Wanted for Fail to Comply Recognizance x 3, Resist Peace Officer, Escape Custody, Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, Break and Enter x 2. McNevan’s surety has also been revoked from his previous form of release.

 

Joseph Claire PENFOUND, DOB: 14Feb1984, age 29. Male, white, 173 cm (5 ’8″), 75 kg (161 lbs), brown hair (may be dyed), blues eyes. Pierced left ear and numerous tattoos on chest, both arms, abdomen and back. Wanted for Break and Enter by OPP and Drive While Disqualified, Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent, Possession Stolen Property and Public Mischief by Sarnia Police. Associates in Petrolia.

 

Bjay William RAVENHORST, DOB: 09Feb1978, age 35. Male, white, 180 cm (5′ 11″), 75 kg (166 lbs), light brown hair, brown eyes, pock-marked face. Numerous tattoos on both arms, both calves, chest and back. Wanted for Breach of Probation x 2.

Traffic Enforcement on Tashmoo Avenue

Sarnia Police have stepped up their enforcement on traffic rules as it pertains to Tashmoo Avenue. This is due to the road blocks set up on South Vidal and the closure of River Road, northbound as well as Tashmoo Avenue itself.

Tashmoo Avenue is a residential area and the posted speed limit is 50 KPH. Extra enforcement will be done in the area, including radar enforcement. Fines for disobeying posted closure signs is $110.00. Diverted traffic is encouraged to use Highway 40. Vehicles disobeying road closed signs and going past the barricades will also be ticketed.

Indecent Act Downtown Sarnia

Sarnia Police arrested and charged a 45 year old Sarnia man for committing an Indecent Act contrary to section 173 of the Criminal Code of Canada. The indecent act occurred on Thursday, September 5 when police were contacted by a downtown business after they spotted the man committing the act outside of their business around 6 PM. The police attended and located the man. Information was obtained from him and the investigation was underway.

On Friday, September 6, and after further investigation, the man was arrested just before the noon hour at his place of employment. He was transported to police headquarters to be processed and later released on an Officer in Charge Undertaking with conditions. His first court date will be October 15, 2013.

Darryl A. Sparks faces one count of committing an Indecent Act. The police are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone who may have any further information that would assist them, to call the police at 519-344-8861, extension 6127 or you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Man Held for Bail After Pointing Firearm

A 49 year old Sarnia man was arrested yesterday afternoon around 4:20 PM at an address on River Road after information was received he had pointed a firearm at a female about an hour earlier. The man had pointed an orange coloured firearm at a 45 year female who was working at another location nearby. The man appeared intoxicated at the time but utter comments to the woman while holding shotgun shells in one hand then pulling the firearm from his waistband. The man fled the area on a bicycle.

Police attended the area looking for the man after a detailed description was provided. Further information was received that the man had also pointed the firearm at passing motorists on South Vidal Street. He was observed to get into a motor vehicle and that vehicle went southbound on River Road.

The vehicle was spotted by an officer doing traffic control in the area of the diesel leak. Other officers arrived to assist after the vehicle went into a driveway on River Road. The man fitting the description was observed standing by the car. He was intoxicated and belligerent. He was arrested for Weapons Dangerous, Pointing a Firearm, Utter Threats, Using a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence and Assault with a Weapon. He will go for a bail hearing this morning.

More Tires Slashed

Sarnia Police have taken more reports of tires being slashed on Willowdale Crescent as well as Ellwood Avenue and Berkshire Road. The tires appeared to have been slashed between September 11 and September 12 in the overnight hours. The two vehicles on Berkshire and Ellwood each had two tires slashed. Possible Arson

Sarnia Police attended the 100 block of Talfourd Street this morning just after 5 AM after a small fire occurred in the driveway of a home. The fire was out before Sarnia Fire arrived. Other incendiary devices were located on the property. There was no damage and no one was hurt. The Sarnia Police Identification Branch attended and Criminal Investigators are continuing their investigation.

Sarnia Police Recognizes Employees

Sarnia Police Services Board along with the Sarnia Police held an awards banquet on Friday, September 13, 2013 recognizing employees with long and outstanding service. Police officers and civilians attended the event to receive recognition.

The Police Exemplary Service Medal is one of the Canada-wide awards created by the Governor-General’s office. To qualify for the medal, a police officer must be nominated by the Chief of Police, certifying that the officer has not received serious disciplinary action and affirming that the officer’s conduct has been exemplary and deserving of recognition.

In total this year, 10 officers received their 30 year service bar and 8 received their 20 year service medal.

Thirty-seven civilian employees received long service awards in recognition of their years of service. These certificates ranged from 5 years to 30 years of service.

Drugs on Stuart Street

Sarnia Police Vice Branch executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant on Tuesday September 17, around 2:30 PM. The warrant was executed at an address in the 100 block of Stuart Street. A 30 year old man was arrested just outside the home. He was found in possession of some marihuana, 16 oxycodone pills and over $500 in cash. He was taken to police headquarters to await a bail hearing on charges of Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Cannabis Resin and Possession of Oxycodone for the Purpose of Trafficking.

A 25 year old woman was found inside the residence along with two large dogs. The dogs were secured as the officers searched the home. More marihuana was found along with cannabis resin, a digital scale, and about $5,700 in cash. The woman was summonsed to court and she will face charges of Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Cannabis Resin.

The search resulted in a total seizure of over 300 grams of marihuana, 16 oxycodone pills, cash and various forms of drug paraphernalia.

Not a Day Goes By …..And You Get Arrested Again!

Sarnia Police Vice Branch, assisted by members of the Criminal Investigations and COPPS Branches of the Service, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence on Tunis Avenue last night around 9:30 PM. A 33 year old female was found inside, along with a large aggressive dog. After getting the dog under control and secured, the woman was arrested.

A short time later, a 46 year old man arrived at the home and was promptly arrested. Both parties lived at the house. They were transported to police headquarters. During the search, crystal methamphetamine was found. After some further investigation, it was learned that the male party had been released from court on September 18 on a recognizance of bail. Conditions of that release were that he not possess or use drugs. He will face two charges of breaching that recognizance and one charge of Possession of Methamphetamine. He will go for a bail hearing this morning.

The female was later released on a Promise to Appear, charged with Possession of Methamphetamine.

This is not the first time police have been to this particular address. A pro-active policing approach had been taken in regards to a problem. Preventative measures were made and a partnership established which resulted in the execution of this particular search warrant.

Detour Signs

Sarnia Police are reminding motorists and cyclists that they all must obey any type of road closure signs within the city. Currently, the area of South Vidal Street and Churchill Road is closed and detour signs and barricades remain in place for west bound Churchill Road at Tashmoo Avenue, Tashmoo at Huron Boulevard, Huron at South Vidal, southbound South Vidal at Kenny Street, northbound River Road at the Vidal Street overpass at Sun Avenue.

Officers may not be posted at these intersections but the signs and barricades must be obeyed. Do not follow traffic ahead of you, as these may be contractors who are working in the area. Enforcement is being carried out when someone disobeys these signs, including cyclists. Please use Highway 40 to avoid these particular areas. The barricades are in place for YOUR safety as there is construction in the area and roadways are not safe for travel.

Willa Drive Activity

Residents in the Willa Drive area of Sarnia reported to police some thefts from vehicles as well as a break and enter to a shed and garage. Sarnia Police attended the Willa Drive area on the morning of September 22 to take reports from residents that unknown suspects were in the area earlier that morning. One particular home owner awoke at 3:30 AM to go to work and saw the trunk of his car open and his golf clubs lying on the driveway. Some of the clubs were missing. They are valued at approximately $500.00. The car doors were unlocked. Another area resident reported someone entered his car and took and GPS and a child’s backpack.

Another area resident reported his bike stolen from the backyard shed. The bike is valued at about $300. A garage in the 1200 block was entered and rummaged through. Nothing appeared to have been taken from the garage.

High Speed Pursuit with Stolen Truck

Sarnia Police were involved in a high speed pursuit on Sunday morning around 2 AM in the area of Murphy and London Roads. An observant officer spotted a pickup truck initially in the area of Confederation Street and Trudeau Drive a short time earlier. The truck was stopped in a thru lane on westbound Confederation. The truck proceeded and the officer detected the truck appeared to have steam or smoke coming from its hood. The windows were tinted but the officer could see two individuals in the truck. The truck began to travel northbound on Murphy at a higher rate of speed.

It was learned that the truck was stolen. The truck continued to proceed northbound on Murphy Road. The roof lights were activated on the cruiser and the truck stopped near London Road. The officer exited the cruiser but the truck proceeded northbound, squealing the tires. The driver continued thru the intersection. The truck entered the Wiltshire subdivision. The pursuit was terminated once the officer lost sight of the truck. Patrols were made in the area by other officers. A strong smell of burning rubber was detected by all.

The truck was spotted by another officer in a nearby park. An occupant was observed to exit the truck and run from it into a nearby wooded area. The truck was towed. The investigation continues.

Back in Custody in a Week

Sarnia Police responded to a disturbance on September 20 around 10:45 AM in the 200 block of Lochiel Street. A 23 year old Sarnia woman was banging on a door and yelling and screaming. The woman left in a taxi. A short time later, the woman re-attended the same address and was informed the police were coming. She fled on foot and was observed getting into a car. The car was stopped and the woman was found crouched down and hiding on the passenger floor. She was arrested as she had just been released on a Recognizance on September 13 with numerous conditions including a 24 hour curfew where she was to remain in her residence except for court appearances and pre-scheduled appointments. She remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Suspicious Fire on East Street

Sarnia Police Criminal Investigations Branch is investigating the house fire that occurred on Sunday morning at a home on South East Street. The call came in just before 5 AM and when emergency services arrived, the house was fully engulfed. Damage is extensive. No one was home at the time. Police are asking for the public’s assistance in regards to this fire. 35 Charges Laid Against Sarnia Man

Sarnia Police Service has charged a 43 year old Sarnia man with several domestic related offences dating back to 2010 against a former girlfriend. The charges include Assault with a Weapon, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Injuring an Animal, Forcible Entry, Choking, Obstruct Justice and numerous Breach of Probation and Failing to Comply with Recognizance charges.

Jeffrey Mark Grant remains in custody. He was arrested November 6, 2013. He is scheduled to appear again tomorrow via video to set a date for a bail hearing. Police are asking anyone who may have information regarding Grant to contact Detective Constable Heather Patterson of the Criminal Investigations Branch at 519-344-8861, extension 6105.

Series of Crashes

Sarnia Police responded to a series of motor vehicle crashes yesterday morning. A total of 6 crashes occurred within a 2 hour period between 7 AM and 9 AM yesterday. No one was hurt in the crashes and most of them were due to slippery road conditions.

The first crash happened around 7:15 AM at Murphy Road and Cardiff Drive when an empty school bus hit a bus shelter. The second crash was at 7:35 at Cathcart Boulevard and Modeland Road. While that officer was at that scene taking the report, a second crash occurred just down the road just before 8 AM at Blackwell Road and Michigan Avenue.

The fourth collision was a couple of minutes before 8 AM at Confederation Road and Finch Drive; the fifth at Michigan and Murphy Roads and the sixth at 8:56 AM at Michigan and Blackwell Roads.

Even though it is not officially winter yet, police remind motorists that they must be prepared for winter driving conditions from this time forward. Leave extra time for you to arrive at your destination, leave extra room between the vehicles ahead of you and make sure your motor vehicle is road worthy, that is, top up fluids and clear off mirrors and windows.
