The Sarnia Police Service forwarded an Environment Canada Tornado Warning for East Lambton that was received by the service at 6:58pm on Sunday the 27th of July, 2014.
The new system MyCNN (Community Notification Network) was sent out to 44,301 phone subscribers.
This is the first time the system was used for an emergency in our area for a mass notification.
The notification advised recipients of a tornado warning and further advised the public to tune to their local radio station. Emergency notifications will always provide instructions to the public to tune to local radio for further details.
People are reminded that the 911 call center is for emergency purposes only, it is important for the public to tune to local radio for updated information and instructions related to the on-going emergency.
