Sarnia Police report no major problems during the Canada Day Celebration. During the day officers responded to 101 calls for service and arrested 9 people. These numbers include enforcement at the Canada Day events as well as normal calls for service. Officers laid 9 Liquor License Act Charges between Canatara and Centennial Parks for underage drinking and open liquor. During the fireworks display 3 people were arrested for bail violations. One of the arrests was a 15 year old boy who was initially stopped for a liquor violation, during the conversation with police he continually put his hands in his pockets. Officers became suspicious of his behavior and located a knife in the boy’s possession. He was found to be out on bail with a condition not to possess weapons. He was arrested and charged with Breaching Bail Conditions and Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public. He was held and will attend for a Bail Hearing today.

Officers are also investigating a traffic incident at London Road and Front Street. A man was attempting to leave a parking lot in the area and at one point had to back his truck up, pedestrians near the truck became upset and started hitting the truck and throwing things at the truck. The driver got out of the truck and exchanged words with several people. A fight then broke out between the driver and another male. Officers are continuing the investigation into this matter.

The Sarnia Police Service would like to thank the marine units from The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Ontario Provincial Police and Point Edward Fire and Rescue who patrolled the water during the fireworks display.
