Retired Constable Heather Emmons received a Certificate of Recognition from Ontario Women in Law Enforcement for her community service work. Heather was presented with the certificate at a ceremony on May 2, 2014 in Mississauga.
Heather joined the Sarnia Police Service in February 1986 and retired this past February. At the time of her hiring she was one of only two female officers in Sarnia. She has been active on a number of different committees including the Coordinating Committee on Violence Against Women, the Elder Abuse Committee, the Domestic Assault Review Team, Goodwill Industries, Big Sisters, been a V.I.P. officer and also served as backup to the Domestic Violence Coordinator while serving in Criminal Investigations. She also volunteers with the Humane Society and the VON. She has participated in a College “Girls in Gear” day aimed at attracting senior high school students to careers in Emergency Services. On several occasions Heather has been asked to enlighten students on careers in policing from a woman’s perspective.
Heather continues to serve her community as a volunteer.
