Sarnia Police are reporting that the second annual Prescription Drug Drop Off Day was a huge success. Vice officers assisted by uniform officers collected 2 pounds of a mixture of Oxycodone, Morphine and Hydromorphone. This was in addition to 35 pounds of other medications collected for destruction. There was an increase in the amount of medication collected this year, up from about 30 pounds last year. More people also visited the “drive-thru “collection point at Sarnia Police Headquarters. Thirty cars visited compared with 21 last year.
This campaign was province wide and supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. During last year’s Prescription Drop-Off Day, 3,400 pounds of medication were collected at 104 locations across Ontario. These drugs were safely and securely destroyed in an environmentally-friendly manner, and thereby kept out of the criminal economy.
