On April 1, 2014 Sarnia Police stopped a 23 year old male for no light on his bicycle. The man was charged with providing a false name and Breach of his Probation. The man also had in his possession a coin machine and was charged with Possession of Stolen Property.
The next day members of the Criminal Investigations Division followed up on the theft of the coin machine. They determined the theft of the coin machine occurred at a downtown Laundromat. Detectives reviewed surveillance video and were able to identify a male taking keys from the business. Shortly after the detectives left they received a call that this same male was in the Laundromat. Officers returned and after a short foot chase arrested him. Carey Joseph Sr. age 47 years was charged with Theft Under $5,000.00 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
Further viewing of the video showed two men entering the Laundromat after business hours on April 1, 2014 and using a set of keys to get into the machines and also causing damage. One male was identified as the bicycle rider arrested on April 1, 2014. This male had been released on those charges but was located by detectives in the downtown area and arrested. Carey Randall Joseph Jr. is now charged with Break and Enter, Mischief Over $5,000.00,Possession of a Controlled Substance and 2 counts Breach of Probation.
The second male seen on the video entering after hours was identified and detectives are attempting to locate him.
