**UPDATE** The initial media release resulted in a number of citizen generated tips. Police investigated the information received and were able to identify 26 year old, Brandon Tetreault of Sarnia as the person responsible.
On Sunday, December 17, 2023, members of the Sarnia Police Service Operations Division were able to locate and arrest Tetreault for the offences of:

Aggravated Assault*
-
Theft Under $5,000
-
Wearing a disguise with the intent to commit an offence.
*The age of the victim (75) is a significant factor in determining the charges laid against Tetreault as the strike to the victim’s head could easily have endangered his life.
Tetreault was also bound by a Conditional Sentence Order at the time of these offences. The allegation of breaching the conditions of this sentence have been initiated as it is a process of the court and not a new charge against an accused person.
Tetreault had a video bail hearing on Sunday, December 17 and was remanded into custody. He was scheduled to appear in video court again this morning to determine the bail process. No updates are available from the court at this time.
The 75 year old victim in this matter was treated for his injuries at Bluewater Health and has since been released to continue his recovery at home.
What is a Conditional Sentence Order? “A Conditional Sentence Order is an imprisonment (jail) sentence, except that the offender serves the sentence outside of jail, under strict, jaillike conditions. Conditional sentences are sometimes called “house arrest,” because they often require an offender to spend all or part of the sentence in their house. Just like imprisonment, a conditional sentence will result in a conviction being registered against the offender.
