Sarnia Police are reporting only three arrests on Tuesday night’s downtown celebration on Christina Street. Just before midnight, and as the crowd was beginning to grow significantly, a 57 year old Sarnia man pushed one of the private security personnel that were manning the gate at Front and Lochiel Streets. He was upset at how long it was taking to get into the event, then as he entered he forcefully shoved with both his hands, the 46 year security man.

Another 21 year old Sarnia man attempted to interfere with the altercation, not realizing the victim was hired security. Two police officers at the event attended the area to assist in ejecting the man. The accused continued to be uncooperative even after being told he was under arrest. He was pulling away from the officers and refusing to comply with demands. The officer informed the man he was being arrested for assault. He became more abusive and belligerent. The man had to be forcefully taken to the ground to be brought under control.

He was eventually taken to police headquarters, continuing to be obstinate during the booking in process. He was taken to hospital to be treated for a cut on his forehead.

He was later released on a Promise to Appear on charges of Assault and Resist Arrest. His court date is February 18, 2014. The 21 year old man who interfered during the altercation was also arrested but later released unconditionally.

Later, around 12:30 AM, police received information about a 24 year old out of control female in the 100 block of South Christina Street. Police approached and saw the woman kicking and struggling with a security officer. She smelled strongly of alcohol. She was arrested for being Intoxicated in a Public Place. She continued to kick at police. She was walked to the cruiser but continued to struggle with the officers. She even attempted to kick at people walking by on the sidewalk. She was taken to headquarter and released once sober. She received a Provincial Offence Notice for being intoxicated.
