Two Convenience Store Robberies Solved in Short Order

Two robberies of local Sarnia Convenience stores that occurred on the same day have been solved. The robberies are not believed to be related to one another.

On Monday, the 30^th of October 2023 at 5:00am a suspect entered a convenience store on the 400 block of Exmouth Street and attempted to leave the store with several unpaid items. When the clerk told the suspect that he had to pay for the items, the suspect threatened to assault the clerk and did so while displaying that a knife was attached to his belt. The suspect ran from the store and was arrested a few blocks away, minutes after the robbery happened.

Judson Leslie Brown, 35 of Sarnia has been charged with the following:

• Robbery
  
• Uttering threats to cause death
  
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x2
  
• Carrying a concealed weapon
  
• Breach of probation
  

On the evening of the 30^th of October, 2023 at 9:00pm a suspect entered a convenience store on the 100 block of Indian Road South. The suspect walked to the counter area, held out a knife and ordered the clerk to move out of the way. The suspect then pushed the clerk out of the way and stole several items from behind the counter. The suspect fled the area of the store and was later identified and arrested on the morning of the 31^st of October, 2023.

Andrew Joseph Surridge, 40 of Sarnia has been charged with the following:

• Robbery
  
• Assault with a weapon
  
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  
• Possession of property obtained by crime
  
• Possession of a prohibited device
  

Both robbery suspects were held for a bail hearing.

The Sarnia Police Service responds to incidents such as these robberies with utmost priority and will use all necessary and available resources.

If you witness a robbery happening, remember the following tips:

• Stay calm, do as instructed and don’t make any sudden moves.
  
• Do your best to look for something distinctive about the suspect(s) without staring right at them
  
• Your personal safety is the priority – Money and property can be replaced
  
• Don’t chase or follow the robber. Call 911 and let police catch them.
