Two people were recently arrested for Impaired Driving offences and also charged with offences under The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
On February 12th, 2022 shortly after 2am, while on patrol, an officer stopped a vehicle in the area of Wellington Street and Finch Drive for the purposes of conducting a sobriety test after observing the vehicle driving in an unusual manner. The officer recognized this same vehicle leaving a drinking establishment in the 400 block of North Christina Street just minutes prior to stopping it. After failing an alcohol roadside screening test, the 19 year old driver from Sarnia was arrested accordingly and searched afterwards. Approximately 8 grams of suspected cocaine and 24 suspected Oxycodone pills were allegedly found in her purse. She was then transported to Sarnia Police Headquarters and provided further breath samples which satisfied police that she was over the legal limit.
As a result, Chloie Rene Joyce George was charged with Operation of a Conveyance with 80mg of Alcohol or More in 100ml of Blood and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
On February 13th, 2022, just prior to 2am, an officer located a vehicle stopped in the 1700 block of London Line, which had been reported earlier to police as a possible impaired driver. A concerned citizen had just called 911 after observing this vehicle drifting into the westbound lanes while travelling eastbound on Exmouth Street. The vehicle then proceeded eastbound on London Line when police tried to conduct a traffic stop. Officers were able to safely box the vehicle in and prevent it from moving. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer in this case subsequently formed the opinion that the driver’s ability to operate the conveyance was impaired by alcohol, and as a result, a 29 year old male from Forest, Ontario was arrested accordingly.
Upon searching the immediate area within reach of the driver, police located further evidence of alcohol consumption along evidence of drug trafficking. A digital weigh scale with suspected cocaine residue along with $3500 in cash was also allegedly located in the vehicle. The accused was then transported for further breath tests resulting in readings that were twice the legal limit.
As a result, Tyler Bruce Boyd-Urena was also charged with Operation of a Conveyance with 80mg of Alcohol or More in 100ml of Blood and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.
In both cases, each driver had their vehicle impounded for one week in addition to being issued a 90 day driver’s licence suspension. They are both scheduled to appear in court on March 9th, 2022.
