At approximately 1:50 PM, on February 10, 2021, officers from the Sarnia Police Service Community Patrol Branch responded to an assault that had taken place at an establishment in the Colborne Road and Capel Street area.
Once officers arrived on scene a witness advised that a customer was waiting at the counter for an order when another male walked into the restaurant and for some unknown reason walked up to the customer and began to strike him. The two were not known to each other. The customer fell to the ground where the accused continued to strike the victim and delivered several more blows. The accused then stopped and walked away.
When officers arrived on scene the suspect was still in the area and thanks to witnesses police were able to arrest him and take him into custody.
The victim did sustain some fairly significant strikes and was seen by Lambton Paramedics, but fortunately was not taken to hospital.
The accused was transported to the Sarnia Police Headquarters where he continued to resist officers as they attempted to place him in a cell. Finally, officers were able to place the accused in a cell and avoid anyone being harmed.
The accused, David Edward Kaczmarek, 36 years of age, of Sarnia, now faces one count of assault causing bodily harm.
Kaczmarek remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
