On February 7, 2022, at approximately 2:40 PM, officers responded to the report of a disturbance involving an individual who had just stolen items from a local hardware store on Quinn Drive.
Upon arrival officers observed two males detaining a suspect who had fled from the store. These two citizens gave chase and were able to catch up to the suspect in the area of Exmouth Street by the Howard Watson Trail. Once confronted the suspect drew a knife on the two men. Fortunately, the men were able to disarm the suspect and avoid any injury.
As the officer attempted to arrest the suspect he continued to resist but ultimately the accused was handcuffed and brought under control. The knife that was used was also recovered along with stolen property.
The accused in this matter, Lee Donald Grant, 29 years of age, of Sarnia, faces the following charges:
- Two counts of assault with a weapon
- One count of theft under $5000
- One count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
Grant has been held for a bail hearing.
We truly would like to thank the two individuals who assisted in apprehending this suspect. We would also like to advise the public to be mindful that these criminals may be in possession of weapons such knives, screw drivers, and even guns. There is always that risk of harm and thus know your limitations and please be safe.
