On January 30, 2022, at approximately 4:40 AM, members of the Sarnia Police Service Community Patrol Branch responded to the report of a collision in the area of Christina Street and Errol Road.

The collision involved a single vehicle that had sustained significant front end damage as the result of having struck a hydro pole and snapping it in half. The driver of the motor vehicle was not present at the scene.

Officers immediately determined who the owner of the vehicle was and attended their residence.

There they located the owner and suspected driver of the vehicle and were able to form grounds to arrest the suspect for impaired operation. The driver did not appear to have sustained any injuries.

The accused was transported to the Sarnia Police Headquarters where samples of breath were provided. It was determined that the driver had over twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

As a result of this investigation Gordon Kenneth Yates, 52 years of age, of Point Edward, was charged with impaired operation and for having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

Yates was issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension. His first court appearance will be on February 22, 2022, at 9:30 AM, at the Sarnia Lambton Courthouse located at 700 Christina Street North.
