Earlier this morning (January 20, 2022), at approximately 3:15 AM, officers from General Patrol were in the area of Wellington Street and Russell Street when they observed a vehicle that took off from the intersection before the stop light turned green.
The vehicle was travelling northbound on Russell Street and as the officers attempted to catch up to the suspect vehicle it pulled into a lane way in the 100 block of Russell Street. As the officers were exiting their cruiser they observed the two occupants get out of their vehicle and proceed to run through backyards and jump fences.
Immediately other officers were dispatched to the area to assist in locating the two individuals that fled on foot from the vehicle. As the initial officers approached the abandoned vehicle a large quantity of a suspected drug was observed in plain view inside the car. A further search of the vehicle also located a replica handgun, that was determined to be a pellet gun, along with other evidence that would relate to the trafficking of drugs.
Officers continued to search the area and located a male and female matching the description of the occupants, who fled from the vehicle, in the area of Cromwell Street attempting to enter a taxi.
The two suspects were taken into custody and transported to the station without further incident. The male suspect was shortly thereafter transported to hospital due to the fact that he may have swallowed an unknown quantity of the alleged drug while fleeing from police in an effort to destroy the evidence. At this time the accused remains in hospital and is being monitored to ensure his well-being.
It was later determined that a total quantity of 12.6 grams of crack cocaine was recovered, along with other evidence, and the replica handgun.
The following individuals have been charged accordingly:
-
Jeremy Joseph Spinks, 34 years of age, of Sarnia, faces one count of possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of failing to comply with a release order, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon.
-
