On November 6, 2021, at approximately 8:00 PM, a vehicle heading northbound on Indian Road, in the area of Exmouth Street, struck the curb, lost control, and struck a light post on the center median.
Once officers arrived on scene they located the driver of the vehicle who presented with signs of impairment. The driver was taken into custody for impaired operation of a conveyance. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any sort of serious injuries.
Once transported back to the Sarnia Police Headquarters the accused then submitted suitable samples of breath into an Intoxilyzer with results indicating that he was over twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
The accused, Michael R. Charman, 69 years of age, of Sarnia, faces one count of impaired operation of a conveyance and one count of operation impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
Mr. Charman’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
