Stolen Vehicle Involved in Multiple Collisions

On September 26, 2021, prior to 1:00 PM, a white pick-up truck was stolen from the parking lot of a variety store located at Indian Road and Wellington Street.

At approximately 1:00 PM, the Sarnia Police Service dispatch received a call regarding a hit and run the had just occurred at Exmouth Street and Christina Street involving the stolen white pick-up truck. The vehicle continued northbound on Christina as officers were notified of the incident.

The officers were able to locate the vehicle in the area of southbound Murphy Road at Exmouth Street where the truck was boxed in by a cruiser and another vehicle that was stopped ahead of it while it was being held up by a red light. As an officer got out, on foot, to approach he the driver, who was still in the stolen vehicle, the suspect proceeded to drive away by driving into the vehicle a head of it and make its way out. The truck then proceeded through the red right. The vehicle continued to be driven in a dangerous manner by swerving in and out of traffic and mounting curbs.

As the stolen vehicle continued eastbound on Exmouth Street it approached a pedestrian crossover at Exmouth Street and the Howard Watson Trail which was activated to stop motor vehicle traffic. The stolen vehicle then rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped at the crossover lights. The driver of the stolen truck jumped out and began to run from police onto the Howard Watson Trial. As soon as officers arrived on scene they immediately gave chase to the suspect onto the trail.

Fortunately, the suspect was tripped up by a cyclist on the trail which allowed officers the opportunity to catch up. A struggle then ensued as the accused refused to co-operate with the police as they attempted to arrest him. The accused was finally taken into custody.

It was later determined that the stolen vehicle was involved in a total of five collisions during its travels.

The accused, Trevor James Clark, 29 years of age, of Sarnia, was arrested and charged as follows:

–       Theft of motor vehicle

–       Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

–       Failure to stop after accident (five counts)

–       Flight from police officer

–       Resist peace office

–       Drive while under suspension

The Trevor Clark remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

No one was seriously injured or taken to hospital during this incident, which is very fortunate. We would also like to thank the individuals who called the police and directed police regarding the suspect’s direction of travel.
