One June 22, 2021, at approximately 11:30 AM, members of the Sarnia Police Service COPPS Unit, while on Patrol, conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle that was travelling northbound on Murphy Road from Confederation Street regarding concerns involving the insurance and validation status of the vehicle.
Upon conversing with the driver it was determined that he was prohibited from driving under the Criminal Code of Canada as well as being under conditions of not to be seated in the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle.
At that point the accused was taken into custody without incident.
A search of the person turned up 28.2 grams of cocaine (street value of $3,384.00), 8.7 grams of crystal methamphetamine (street value of $870.00), and approximately $2160 in currency.
As result of the investigation the accused, Richard Paul Meloche, 32 years of age, of Sarnia, faces the following charges:
1) One count of operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited
2) Two counts of possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking
3) Five counts of failing to comply with a release order
Meloche remains in custody, at this time, pending a bail hearing.
