On June 1, 2021, at approximately 10:35 AM, officers from the Community Response Division, were dispatched to an address in the area of 800 Montrose Street after receiving a report of firearms that were present and concerns for the welfare of those present.
Initially several individuals exited the residence without incident but the suspects remained within and refused to exit when called upon. Due to concerns of public safety a perimeter had been established around the residence for containment purposes and members of the Sarnia Police Service Emergency Response Team were deployed to the scene to continue managing the incident.
Officers were able to determine that the two suspects had barricaded themselves in a room in the basement and were not being co-operative. Members of the Sarnia Police Service Negotiating Team were also in attendance to assist with the resolution of this incident.
The public was notified via social media and MyCNN and were asked to remain away from the area, as well, those that resided within a one kilolmetre radius were asked to remain indoors as the investigation continued.
Finally, at approximately 6:45 PM, and after extensive negotiations, the two suspects that had barricaded themselves removed the items that were in front of the room door and exited the residence without incident. Both received medical attention and were ultimately arrested and transported to The Sarnia Police Service Headquarters.
Members of the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch requested a warrant to search the residence for any firearms that may be present. Upon completing the search detectives located a .303 calibre high-powered bolt action rifle with three rounds of ammunition in a magazine and another round of ammunition chambered in the firearm, making it ready to shoot.
