Individual Charged Regarding College Street Fire

Sarnia Fire and Sarnia Police attend an active structure fire on April 28, 2021 located on College Avenue South, at approximately 2:45 PM. Since then the fire scene was being held as part of the ongoing investigation. The Sarnia Police Service would like to advise the public that the fire scene located in the 100 block of College Avenue South has been cleared by police and fire.

Once the investigation began detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch were able to determine who the suspect was in relation to setting the fire. The suspect was located and arrested by officers on general patrol shortly after 9:00 PM on April 28, 2021. As information evolved it was also determined that the arson suspect had assaulted someone at the residence. The victim was able to flee the residence prior to the fire being set and received medical attention for injuries sustained during the assault. The suspect and the victim are related to each other.

The a 20-year-old, is facing the following charges:

  1. Arson
  2. Two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily
  3. Assault causing bodily harm
  4. Assault causing bodily harm by choking or suffocating or strangle
  5. Breach of recognizance

The accused remains in custody pending his bail hearing.
