A 21 year old male from Sarnia was recently arrested and charged with Impaired Driving.
On April 2nd, 2021 just prior to 11pm, officers assigned to the Community Response Division were in the area of Mitton Street and Davis Street for an unrelated police call. At this time, they were alerted to the loud acceleration of a motor vehicle observed travelling northbound on Mitton Street at a high rate of speed and heading towards the officers. As the vehicle approached, officers yelled at the driver to “stop, slow down!” The vehicle continued northbound at an extreme high rate of speed and was then observed aggressively braking as officers began to pursue it. After turning onto a side street in the Mitton Village area and then pulling into a private driveway, the driver exited his vehicle a began walking towards a house in the 100 block of Cobden Street.
The first officer on scene quickly realized the driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol, and as a result, the accused was arrested accordingly for Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired. He was then transported to the Sarnia Police Service Headquarters where the driver provided further breath tests resulting in readings that were more than double the legal limit.
Michael Steven Rempel was also charged with Operation of a Conveyance While Having 80mgs of Alcohol or More and was later released on an Undertaking. The vehicle in this case was impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 4th, 2021.
