On March 20, 2021, at approximately 12:10 AM, an officer, of the Sarnia Police Service COPPS Unit, came across a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Devine Street and Canterbury Court. As the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop the speeding vehicle made a sudden left turn onto Canterbury Court. Once the vehicle came to a stop the driver exited the vehicle at which time the officer approached the driver and advised him that he was being stopped due to the excessive speed he was travelling.
The driver then suddenly threw his keys at the officer and began to run. After a lengthy foot pursuit, the officer was able to apprehend the suspect without further incident. Upon dealing with the driver the officer formed grounds to arrest the suspect for impaired operation.
The accused, Daniel Alexander Dupont, 32 years of age, of Stayner, Ontario, faces the following charges:
1) Operation while impaired
2) Operation while prohibited under the criminal code
3) Resist peace officer
4) Flight from peace officer
Dupont remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
