On February 23, 2021, a member of the Sarnia Police Service COPPS Unit conducted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle in the area of Devine Street and Lillian Street. The driver of the motor vehicle was determined to be a suspended driver and was accordingly charged under the Highway Traffic Act Offence.
Also present in the vehicle was a female passenger who was suspected of trafficking of drugs. As the investigation continued the passenger was arrested and taken into custody. Upon completing a search of the suspect the officer located the following:
- 262.11 grams of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $26,211.00
- 7.83 grams of suspected cocaine with a street value of $783.00
- $2225.00 in Canadian currency
The suspect in this matter, Melissa Franchini, 34 years of age, of Sarnia, was charged with two counts possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Franchini’s first court appearance will be on April 21, 2021, 9:30 AM, at the Sarnia Lambton Court House located at 700 Christina Street North, Sarnia.
