A 35 year old male from Sarnia was arrested yesterday afternoon for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Drug after being involved in a head on collision.
On October 14th, 2020 shortly before 12:30pm, the accused in this case was driving a pickup truck eastbound on Campbell Street and had just passed a cyclist that was travelling in the same direction. At the same time, a Bluewater Power service truck was heading westbound on Campbell Street near Kirby Street. Suddenly, the eastbound pickup truck began to cross over the center line and, as a result, struck the Bluewater Power truck head on causing significant damage to both vehicles.
An officer from the COPPS Unit, who responded to this scene, observed the accused in a semi-conscious state and noted evidence of recent drug use. As a result, he was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving before being transported to hospital for minor injuries and medical treatment.
While at the hospital, an evaluation was conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert and it was his opinion that the accused, Robert Allan Larocque, was impaired by a combination of drugs and therefore he was charged accordingly. He was later released from the hospital on a Promise to Appear and his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days.
The occupants of the Bluewater Power truck were not injured. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. See photo below.
