The Sarnia Police Service would like to warn the public regarding a scam involving the use of the Sarnia Police and the Sarnia Court House.
It appears that the public is receiving calls advising that their personal information has been compromised and that they need to call a certain number back. They are identifying themselves as Officer Davis or Officer Hall (we do not have either of these officers).
A phone number is then given to them to call back which is actually the phone number that pertains to the Sarnia Police Service Court Office. It is believed that if you call back within a very short period of time the scammers are still holding your line and will attempt to ask you questions regarding your personal identifiers (ie full name, DOB, SIN, etc.,). If you do not call back within that period of time or they lose the hold on your line, then your call will actually go through to the court house.
We are asking people not to call back but rather just hang up and disregard the call. As always, no one should be calling you out of the blue asking for information such as you SIN or other identifiers.
These calls are tying up phone lines and unfortunately there is nothing that can be done.
So please do not give anyone any information and just hang up.
