On July 17, 2020, at approximately 2:10 AM, members of the Sarnia Police Service were dispatched to locate a male to check on his well-being.
At approximately 4:10 AM, a call was received, from a passerby, advising that a male was present on the Airport Road overpass at the 402. With the assistance of the OPP, the highway was shut down in both directions along with Airport Road.
Officers that were initially on scene were assisted by Sarnia Police Service negotiators and an on-call MHEART (Mental Health Engagement and Response Team) crisis nurse.
Over two hours later, approximately 6:50 AM, individuals involved were able to convince the male to remove himself from the incident and into their care. The individual was transported to hospital where he remains.
The Sarnia Police Service would like to thank all involved in this incident and their abilities to bring this volatile situation to a peaceful conclusion.
