In addition, 10 Provincial Offence Notices (Tickets) were issued over the weekend. These tickets ranged from open liquor and underage drinking to traffic violations and trespassing offences. Officers were kept very busy responding to Canatara Beach and especially Mike Weir Beach for large gatherings and youth parties. In the majority of these cases, individuals were spoken to regarding social distancing guidelines and several teenagers were cautioned for possession of alcohol under the age of 19. Officers disposed a significant amount of seized alcohol on scene while only a minor number of tickets were issued accordingly.
Sarnia Police have also noticed a significant decrease in the call volume at The Cove Beach at the west end of Canatara Park since taking a targeted enforcement approach at this location. This zero-tolerance strategy will also be deployed at Mike Weir Beach in the near future.
