On Saturday, May 23, 2020, at approximately 4:00 AM, an officer on general patrol observed a car travelling southbound on Christina Street in the area of Talfourd Street with no taillights. The officer conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and as the officer approached the vehicle he observed that two occupants were shuffling around a great deal. As the officer continued his investigation it was determined that the driver was a suspended driver.
At this time the officer arrested the accused for suspended driving. A search of the driver located a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, along with other paraphernalia, and cash. A search of the vehicle located further paraphernalia. The female passenger was also arrested and further drug paraphernalia and a large amount of cash was located.
The two suspects were transported to the Sarnia Police Station to be booked in. Officers conducted a further search of both suspects and located a significant quantity of drugs on their person.
The total quantity of drugs and cash seized is as follows:
- 23 grams of fentanyl with a street value of $11,500
- 6 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of $600
- 2 grams of cocaine with a street value of $200
- $2820 in cash
The following individuals were charged as follows:
Cassandra Lynn Chalmers, 29 years of age, of Sarnia, faces one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl) and two counts of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine, and methamphetamine).
Richard Wallace Gray, 37 years of age, of Ottawa, faces one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl), one count of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and one count of driving while under suspension.
Both parties were held pending a bail hearing.
