Broadcast time: 11:30 AM

Date: February 19, 2020

The Sarnia Police Service would like to remind the public that we are currently experiencing an increase in the number of wide loads that the Sarnia Police Service have been escorting. We are asking drivers to take certain precautions when approaching or following these convoys.

We ask that if you are following a wide load convoy, that has police vehicles escorting it, with emergency light flashing, that you please do not attempt to pass any of the vehicles in the convoy. Also, if you are approaching a wide load convoy, that is being escorted by police vehicles, with emergency lights flashing, that you please pull over as far as you can to the curb or shoulder and stop until the convoy has passed. Also remember to follow any directions given to you by the police officer.

We truly understand that this is an inconvenience but in the end we want to ensure everyone’s safety. These extremely large loads are unable to maneuver or stop very easily. If a load were to topple over the repercussions could be severe with long term road closures.

Please remember that hydro workers may be present to assist in raising wires to allow the load through (example in picture below) be mindful of their presence.

We truly would appreciate your understanding and co-operation in keeping our roads and everyone on them safe.
