A 38 year old male from Hamilton has been arrested and charged with Drug Impaired Driving.
On December 19, 2019 at approximately 4:45pm, the Sarnia Police Service received a complaint of an erratic driver travelling eastbound on London Line. The vehicle in this case was observed leaving the roadway onto the shoulder then crossing lanes into the centre lane and over the centre line.
Within a few minutes, Sarnia Police located the vehicle in question at a motel in the 1600 block of London Line with the engine running and the reverse lights on. A lone male occupant was observed in the vehicle slumped over the steering wheel. The officer banged on the window several times to get the driver’s attention although he did not respond. Concerned for the driver’s wellbeing, the officer called for an ambulance and then used his baton to break the passenger side window.
Once the window was broken, the male immediately woke up and was able to exit the vehicle. The officer noticed the male exhibited physical signs of drug impairment and the vehicle contained evidence of recent drug use in plain view. As a result, the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Drug.
After conducting a search, police seized a bag containing 1.6 grams of cocaine in the driver’s wallet and also located a cigarette pack in the vehicle that contained the following items:
- 1 glass vial containing .075 grams of Hydromorphone.
- 3 glass vials and 2 clear Ziploc bags containing a total of 6 grams of powdered Fentanyl.
The accused was then transported to the Sarnia Police station where he took part in a Drug Evaluation and was deemed impaired by a combination of drugs.
In addition to Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Drug, the accused Kevin Cabral has also been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – Hydromorphone, Possession of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine, and Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking
The total value of Fentanyl found in Cabral’s truck was worth approximately $3,000.00 and the cocaine had a value of $160.00.
The accused was later released on an Undertaking. His Driver’s Licence is immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle is impounded for one week.
