Sarnia Police attended the area of John and Confederation Streets around 3:40 AM this morning to find a 51 year old man sitting on the curb with a large laceration on his forehead. He was also complaining about a sore shoulder. The initial 911 caller attended and informed police that a 50 year old man was at his apartment with a knife wound to his stomach area. Police went to the 300 block of Confederation and found the man with a 6 inch slash on his abdomen. All involved parties are from Sarnia.
Further investigation revealed that the man police first encountered on the curb had broke into a garage and stole some tools. The homeowner heard the thief and went out to investigate, carrying a mop handle. A confrontation occurred in the driveway between the two men. The thief brandished a knife and advanced on the victim. He responded by striking the suspect on the head. A physical fight ensued with the suspect swinging the knife and slashing the victim. He yelled for help while trying to hold the accused down.
The accused managed to escape, walking westbound on Confederation. The victim looked in the knapsack left behind by the suspect and found tools that had once been in his garage. The accused was taken to hospital for treatment. The victim in the matter refused medical treatment at the time.
The accused was eventually returned to police headquarters to await a bail hearing. He faces charges of Robbery, Assault with a Weapon and Break and Enter.
