The Sarnia Police Service has received a number of phone calls from concerned citizens today regarding a phone scam.
According to information received from the public, an individual calls a person saying that they are from the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) and they owe them money. The individual on the phone instructs the caller to withdraw large amounts of money from their bank accounts and deposit the money into an unknown account at a different banking institution.
The Sarnia Police Service is advising the public that the RCMP or any other police service would not call anyone saying money is owed to them. If you receive such calls do not provide the caller with any of your personal information over the phone, and simply ignore these people and hang up.
