On May 16, 2019, at approximately 1:20 pm, a member of the Sarnia Police Service Traffic Unit conducted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle on Talfourd Street. As the officer approached the vehicle he observed that the occupants were moving about excessively.

Both occupants appeared to be very nervous and agitated. The front passenger kept reaching between the front seat and console. The passenger was asked to step out of the vehicle for safety reasons and to determine what he was doing. The officer immediately noticed two vials that were taped together on the passenger seat. One of the vials appeared to contain a purple powder.

A second officer who had attended the scene observed a hammer between the driver’s side door and the driver’s seat.

After looking at the vials closer grounds were formed to arrest the two men for possession of a controlled substance believed to be powdered fentanyl in one of the vials and methamphetamine in the second vial.

The driver of the motor vehicle, Curtis Edward McBean, 30 years of age, of Sarnia, now faces two counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of failing to comply with his recognizance.

The passenger of the motor vehicle, Norman Leroy Jackson, 43 years of age, of Forest, faces two counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking,

Bother Jackson and McBean remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Officers located 3.72 grams of purple fentanyl powder (street value $1850), 4.43 grams of methamphetamine (street value of $450), and a total of $4321.70.
