On April 9, 2019, at approximately 2:50 pm, officers responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Pontiac Drive and London Road. As the call evolved information received was that the 41 year old male driver of the vehicle, who ran a red light, fled the scene and was heading to the plaza directly to the north the intersection. As well, a witnesses and bystanders had given chase after the suspect and were able to hold him awaiting police arrival.
Fortunately, a plain clothed officer from the Criminal Investigation Branch and road officers arrived on scene and were able to continue the arrest and place the suspect in custody. The suspect was acting very erratically, he continued to struggle with the officers, even while in hand cuffs. At one point the accused pulled away and began to run but was only able to get a short distance away. As officers attempted to place him in the back of the cruiser he continued to resist by pushing and planting his feet of the cruiser.
Finally due to the way the suspect was acting and possible injuries from the collision, the suspect was transported to hospital for proper assessment.
At this time the investigation is ongoing.
