A 51 year old male from Sarnia was recently arrested for Impaired Driving as well as Driving While Disqualified.
On November 17, 2018, shortly after 9:00 p.m., Sarnia Police were dispatched to the area of St. Andrew and South Vidal Streets in regard to a black GMC Yukon swerving all over the road and almost hitting oncoming traffic. A witness had been following this vehicle from Corunna and notified police.
Officers observed this vehicle in the area of Confederation Street, turning northbound onto Queen Street. Police then activated the emergency lights and sirens as the vehicle continued northbound on Queen Street driving at a slow rate of speed, disregarding the lights and sirens.
The vehicle was eventually stopped by police after it was boxed in by another officer who had parked his cruiser up ahead in the area of Queen and Devine Street.
When police approached the vehicle, the driver opened the door, stumbled out, and displayed obvious signs of impairment due to alcohol. As a result of these observations, the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving. Police also confirmed that he was a prohibited driver and therefore he was also arrested for Drive While Disqualified. Later, at the Sarnia Police Station, the driver refused to give the breath technician a breath sample for analysis.
As a result of this incident, Douglas Ross Paquette has also been charged with Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample. He was held in custody and faces a court appearance tomorrow morning.
