Officers from the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch had received information from the London Police Service that two individuals wanted in London for numerous thefts of cars from the London and Strathroy area may be in Sarnia with a stolen vehicle.
On September 20, 2018, at approximately 1:30 pm, members from the Sarnia Police Service located a vehicle parked in the 1700 block of a London Line motel that had been reported stolen.
Officers set up surveillance on the vehicle and observed a female suspect walk over to the stolen vehicle and enter into the driver’s seat. At approximately 2:10 pm, officers were able to surround the vehicle and arrest the accused female.
A seconded suspect, a male, who was staying at the motel, was also later arrested regarding his warrants from London
Currently in custody and awaiting bail hearings are:

Sherri Lynn Stringer, 38 years of age, of London, who faces charges for breaching her recognizance and probation, five counts of theft of a motor vehicle, six counts of possession of stolen property, possession of identity documents, along with other charges from London. Stringer was wanted in Sarnia for fraud over $5000, three counts of theft under $5000, two counts of failing to attend court, and theft of a motor vehicle.
- Matthew Smibert, 36 years of age, of no fixed address, faces charges for breaches of recognizance and probation, five counts of theft of a motor vehicle, six counts of possession of stolen property, possession of identity documents, along with other charges from London. He also has outstanding charges related to Sarnia for which a warrant was being sought.
Both Stringer and Smibert were held for bail hearings and will be transferred to London at a later time to deal with their charges in that city as well.
