On August 28, 2018, at approximately 2:15 am, members of the Sarnia Police Service were dispatched to the 5000 block of Blackwell Side Road. Information received was that a vehicle had pulled into the laneway of the business and the front door of the business was smashed open causing the alarm to go off. A security guard on scene observed a male party exiting the building.
As officers attempted to attend the scene promptly they were being held up by a slow moving train at a crossing. The security officer on scene attempted to block the suspect in to delay his departure but it appeared that the suspect was going to strike the guards vehicle so the guard moved his vehicle out of the way. Once the suspect left the driveway with his vehicle another officer made his way to the area via another route and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle with the cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens.
The suspect vehicle refused to stop and the pursuit was called off due to safety concerns.
At approximately 5:15 am officers were re-dispatched to the same building on Blackwell Side Road and according to the security guard the suspect had re-attended the residence. Upon arrival officers confronted the suspect in the building. The suspect was arrested with no further incident and taken into custody.
The 39 old accused, of no fixed address, has been charged with:
- 2 counts of breach of recognizance
- 2 counts of break and enter
- 1 count of flight from police while being pursued
- 1 count of theft of a motor vehicle
- 1 count of breach of probation
The accused is being held for a bail hearing.
