On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, between the hours of 5 pm and 6pm a male suspect on a mountain bike attended a residence and approached an elderly female victim in her backyard. At this time the male asked the female for a glass of water and to use her washroom. Upon granting access to the house the suspect assaulted the elderly female and shortly thereafter left the residence with personal property belonging to her.
The suspect attempted to return on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, between 8 pm and 9 pm. The suspect knocked on the victim’s rear window but police were called and prior to their arrival the suspect left the area.
Fortunately a neigbour had surveillance video that assisted in the description of the male suspect.
On July 15, 2018, at approximately 10:00 am, a nearby neighbor who was aware of the investigation observed the same male from the previous dates and immediately contacted the police. Officers arrived shortly thereafter and located the male who then began to run from the police. A foot chase then ensued through backyards and over fences. The suspect was apprehended a short time later without any further incident.
The accused, a 42 year old male from Sarnia, has been charged with the following:
- Sexual Assualt
- Theft Under $5000
- Two counts of possession of a controlled substance
- Break and Enter to a dwelling house
- Possession of break and enter instruments
- Disguise with intent
- Two counts of failing to comply with recognizance
The Sarnia Police would like to thank the neighbour for being vigilant and assisting the Police in the arrest of this accused.
The accused remains in custody and since the investigation is ongoing his name will not be released at this time.
