Unfortunately, the Sarnia Police Service was kept busy with individuals behind the wheel of a motor vehicle while impaired

Case 1:

On June 23, 2018, at approximately 5:50 pm a collision occurred in the area of Indian Road and Devine Street where a red Ford ranger rear ended another vehicle. An officer from the Sarnia Police Service attended the scene to investigate the collision.

As the officer interacted with the driver of the red Ford Ranger he formed grounds to arrest the driver for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The accused in this matter refused to supply a sample of breath to a qualified breath technician.

Subsequently, Mark Stephen Anderson, 62 years of age, of Sarnia, was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and refusal to supply a breath sample.

Case 2:

On June 24, 2018, at approximately, 2:48 am, a resident in the area of Guthrie Drive West and Hagle Street responded to a loud crash heard outside their residence. The resident called 911 after noting that a motor vehicle had struck the 402 sound barrier in the area. Officers arrived on scene to find a vehicle up against the barrier and that a large amount of water was pouring out from what was believed to be a broken water main.

As the officers continued their investigation they formed the grounds to arrest the driver for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The accused was taken back to the Sarnia Police Headquarters where he supplied samples of breath to a qualified breath technician. Upon completing the test it was determined that the driver had over three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

Trevor Elliot, 29 years of age, of Sarnia, now faces charges for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and having over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

Case 3:

On June 24, 2018, at approximately 3:30 am, a motor vehicle collision took place in the 200 block of Mitton Street South where a vehicle being driven by the accused struck the rear end of a parked vehicle. The accused driver returned home to advise his family what had happened and the police were contacted. Once the officer attended the scene and began his investigation he formed the grounds to arrest the driver for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The driver was transported to the Sarnia Police Station where a qualified breath technician took samples of the accused breath on the Intoxilyzer Instrument. Upon completing the test it was determined that the accused had approximately three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

The accused Mitchell McNaughton, 24 years of age, of Sarnia, was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and having over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

In all three incidents no one sustained any serious injuries.

As a reminder, please do not get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle after you have had alcohol to drink. The consequences are significant and can last a lifetime!
