Broadcast time: 11:50 am

Date: May 16, 2018

On May 6, 2018, at approximately 12:30 pm, as part of ongoing proactive policing that deals with safety on our local roadways, a member of the Sarnia Police Service was conducting radar enforcement on Blackwell Road Road.

At this time the officer observed a vehicle travelling at an extremely high rate of speed and activated his radar unit to measure the speed. It was determined that the vehicle was travelling 113 km/hr in a posted 50 km/hr zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and determined that the driver was a 21 year old man from Sarnia.

The driver was charged under the “Stunt Driving” section of the Highway Traffic act for driving a motor vehicle with excessive speed (63 km/hr over the posted limit).

The offender’s driver license was seized and the motor vehicle he was driving was impounded for seven days.

We remind motorists that road safety is one of our many priorities and encourage people to obey the speed limits. Speed is a proven aggravating factor when it comes to collisions. Not only are you endangering your life but the life of everyone around you.
