On May 11, 2018 at approximately 8:25 pm, a male was southbound on Hillary Street and had come to a stop at Maxwell Street. It is alleged that the driver, who is believed to be under the influence of an opiate, was the lone occupant of the vehicle and had passed out. During this time it is also alleged that the vehicle began to roll onto Maxwell Street and struck a City Transit Bus that was travelling east bound. The vehicle struck the mid portion of the bus.
Paramedics also attended and initially found the driver of the vehicle unconscious but were able to awaken him. He was taken to hospital for examination. A blood demand was made of the suspect and subsequently taken for analysis.
The suspect, Ryan C. Thompson, a 39 year old male from Sarnia, was charged with:
- Impaired by drugs while operating a motor vehicle.
- Careless driving
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
Fortunately no one on the bus sustained any significant injuries.
