Alzheimer’s Society of Sarnia-Lambton and Sarnia Police Service partnership a success!!

Living Safely with Dementia: Registration Day

3 out of 5 people living with dementia will go missing at some point in their dementia journey, which is a serious safety risk. If not found within 24 hours, half of them will have a serious injury or die. Statistics have proven that anyone living with dementia is at risk for going missing. That is why on Saturday, May 12th, the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton partnered with the Sarnia Police Service to provide an opportunity for individuals living with dementia to be registered as someone at risk of going missing.

Sixteen individuals and their caregivers participated in today’s registration day allowing the Sarnia Police to receive information that may help first responders respond quickly and appropriately to those who may become lost or missing. Those individuals and their caregivers were also provided with valuable information and strategies to help those with dementia and their caregivers with their activities of daily living.

The Sarnia Police Service would like to thank CEO, Melanie Bouck, Ann McLean and Christine Wright of the Alzheimer’s Society of Sarnia-Lambton for collaborating with us on today’s successful event. We look forward to continuing to work with the Alzheimer’s Society on another registration event in the Fall.
