Date: February 23, 2018

As part of the ongoing effort to bringing awareness and preventing impaired driving, members of the Sarnia Police Service conducted a RIDE Program during the evening hours of February 22, 2018.

Prior to 8:30 pm, officers had set-up a RIDE check point on Front Street in the area of Nelson Street. During the check point an officer had reason to believe that the driver of a motor vehicle that was passing through had consumed alcohol and maybe over the legal limit. Therefore, the officer demanded that the driver provide a sample of breath into a road side screening device.

The sample taken indicated a “Fail” and at 8:30 pm the driver was arrested for having over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. The driver was then transported to the Sarnia Police Headquarters where a breath technician was able to administer the Intoxilyzer and determined that the accused was over two and a half times the legal limit.

The accused, Dana Hendrie, 48 years of age, was charged with having more than 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood while driving a motor vehicle and released once sober.

The RIDE Program, from last evening, stopped approximately 275 motor vehicles and also laid three various Highway Traffic Act charges to other drivers.
